The German Exchange at Walled Lake Central was established in 1976 and is the oldest continuing exchange between an American
and German high school in the U.S. Every other fall, a group of 20-30 German students and their teachers from the Johannes
Kepler Gymnasium in Garbsen, Germany visit Walled Lake and spend three weeks with Central students and thier families while
attending classes at Central and taking part in field trips and special programs. Walled Lake students have the opportunity
to dothe same in Garbsen during the following summer. Some of the many things students have done during the exchange
are:
- Visit Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Amish country.
- Take part in fall sports events and games, celebrate Halloween, visit haunted houses and take part in hayrides, barn dances
and color tours.
- Visit points of interest in the Detroit area such as the DIA, Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum, Cranbrook
Institute, Meadowbrook Hall and Martin Luther King High School in Detroit.
- While in Germany, American students have visited places such as Hannover, Hamburg, Berlin, The Black Forest, Munich and
the Alps to name just a few.
