Methodology
Mr. Lewis is a firm believer in active participation. In his classes students must participate daily in class discussion
and activities and earn points for doing so. Using as much German as possible is encouraged and there will be some class
periods where "German only" is the rule of the day. Speaking exercises will be balanced with writing assignments, skit
performances, listening exercises, grammar drills and cultural units, which are often enhanced through the use of authentic
written materials, CDs and DVDs. Mr. Lewis strives to achieve a positive classroom environment where everyone is respected
and appreciated. His goal is to achieve a classroom where students and teacher can form a school "family" that can inevitably
lead to greater student academic achievement. Since this is an A.P. course, the pace of class instruction and the extent
of homework necessary for success on the A.P. Exam will be greater than in the first four years of German. Practice
in test taking techniques using old A.P. test copies will be frequent.
Grading
Homework and quizzes: 35%
Participation and oral presentations: 35%
Tests and projects: 30%
The semester final examination will count as 20% of the final semester grade. Mr. Lewis adheres to the district
grading scale.
